It looked like the giant claw of a monster creeping out of the box. As it grew, the amorphophallus was moved to a sunny room near the kitchen. It grew so fast, inches a day, that I joked it would go through the ceiling. When informed by my son about the stinky flower, I made a strong suggestion that it be moved outside. As the flower bloomed, I worried that flies from miles around would be attracted to the dead meat smell. That didn't happen. Only a few flies came. The flower was very large and unusual. The smell was only bad when you got within a few feet of it. As I recall, the smell lasted only a few days but the flower lasted a longer time. The thick stem and flower rotted away and I thought the plant was dead. Months later a beautiful tree-like plant grew up. I asked my son what kind of a palm tree was in the pot. He informed me that it was the amorphophallus growing its one leaf. What a beauty!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650801769305970321.post-31456368362784264242008-09-18T09:41:00.000-07:002008-09-18T09:41:00.000-07:00So the reason you grow this Big, Smelly plant is ....So the reason you grow this Big, Smelly plant is ..............<BR/>although I must say it is pretty.blogreaderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04492294103034859983noreply@blogger.com
